In my life people have doubted me from the very beginning because of my cerebral palsy and that started with the doctors. After I was born the doctors told my father I would probably never be able to walk. As I look back on it now, I am glad my Dad did not listen to them. As soon as I could do anything my Dad got me into physical therapy where I worked on developing my motor skills 3-4 times a week.
When I started elementary school and I noticed a lot of my friends joined the surf team. I wanted to do the same. My Dad without hesitation signed me up with Endless Summer Surf Camp. As I continued surfing with the awesome instructors, I got recognized by a local newspaper. The OC Register wanted to write about me hoping to inspire others. The article did inspire others and a couple years later the OC Register did a follow up article as well. My Dad and (step) Mom, Anthony and Erika have always viewed me as able to do and try anything. Their encouragement also led me to want to try another passion. I got involved in weightlifting to become stronger. In middle school I joined the track and field team where I participated in shot put. The strength I developed at the gym later, made me realize I could also participate in Boxing at American Gym, multiple times a week while I still continued to lift weights.
I have never let anyone's opinions or doubts stop me from trying every activity I wanted to try and I have to take a moment and thank my parents for never doubting my ability to give something my all no matter what it is.
I have had the opportunities to do so many activities such as; Snow mobile riding/sledding, Adaptive Snow Skiing at Awesome in McCall, Idaho, Kayaking, Zip lining, Quad riding, Boating, Rafting, Swimming, flying, sail gliding and so much more. With all this said, I hope I can inspire other parents that have children with disabilities no matter how serious, at least to try a physical activity because you never know what that activity could lead to and actually make them stronger and more enthusiastic to try new things.
